Ireland was seventh in the environmental index, which collated data on greenhouse gas emissions, biodiversity and energy and resource productivity
The Transitions Performance Index (TPI), published by the European Commission, ranks Ireland as the third-best country in the EU and the fifth-best in the world in creating conditions for a sustainable future.
Switzerland topped the index followed by Denmark and the Netherlands with the UK in fourth position.
The index assessed over 70 countries around the world including all 27 EU member states on economic, social, environmental and governance performances.
Ireland recorded one of the most improved overall scores of any country since 2010, when it was ranked 11th globally.
Efforts being made by companies such as Amazon & Sisk are playing a role in the fight against climate change, they are implementing long-term sustainability plans to offset their emissions which is beginning to have an effect in Ireland and in areas, they operate in, overseas.
